Follow-up testing is always performed to ensure the effectiveness of our services. The US EPA recommends that you fix your home if the indoor radon level is 4.0 pCi/L or higher.

Radon in New Construction

Most radon testing and mitigation are performed during a real estate transaction. Radon FAQ

  • What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that results from the decay of uranium found in soil, rock, and water. Radon is the main source of our exposure to all radiation. In fact, 55% of all the radiation to which we are exposed comes from radon gas.

  • Why Should I Worry About Radon?

Outdoor radon is not a threat. however, radon gas can enter homes or other buildings and accumulate to dangerous levels. Because we spend so much time indoors, exposure to such radon levels over a long time can pose a serious health risk.

  • How Do I Know If Radon is There?

You cannot see, smell, or taste radon. The only way to know is to test. Any home can have radon problems; it doesn't matter if it's a new home, old home, drafty home, or well-insulated home. Elevated concentrations of radon have been identified in homes in all kinds of homes.

  • How Much Radon is Too Much?

Because radon is radioactive, there is no "safe" level. Exposure to any concentration will pose some risk. The amount of radon in the air is measured in picoCuries per liter or pCi/L. The US EPA estimates that the average outdoor radon concentration is approximately 0.4 pCi/L, and the average indoor radon concentration is approximately 1.3 pCi/L.
